Win 98 Update Reg Hack

When you run the Win 98 Update Wizard (Start>Windows Update), it checks Microstool's Web site for new versions of drivers and other Windows components. If it finds newer versions than the ones you have, it offers to update your system for you.

(....and they claim this is done without sending any information of MS...hehehehe, yea....right !)

If you skipped Microstool's Registration Wizard when you installed Windows 98, the Update Wizard won't run. You can work around this by creating a text file using Notepad with the following text  (or you can download reghack.zip, BT has already done all the work.) Name the file Register.reg.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion]

"RegDone"="1"

"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Welcome\RegWiz]"@"="1"

To run Register.reg, right-click the resulting file in Explorer, then click Merge. This creates the key RegDone and gives it a value of 1 in the Registry. After this, you can run the Update Wizard without complaint.

It would be a shame if users couldn't take advantage of the Update Wizard just because they were shy about giving their personal information to Microstool through registration.
